_ad.1: A digest of MakeCoffeeNotWAR idea

An independent initiative of the production of a photographic and documentary films from the area of a conflict in Ukraine, focusing on social aspects. It is also an attempt of a social activism with the use of ‘new media’ and ‘web 2.0’ net as financing sources of a non-governmental foundation supporting children from Ługańsk and Doniecko.

We are concerned about the situation, which the populace form the area of an armed conflict is in. We want to show, as Europeans and citizens of the World, that we are not indifferent. Using our competencies, we want to take part in the debate about the humanitarian condition of the society of the World.

We are interested only in the social background. We are not interested in political aspects and we are not on either side of the conflict. We are independent observers, who want to show the impact of the war on both sides of the conflict.

A photographic document taken with a medium format camera of a Soviet-Ukrainian production as well as a full-length documentary film will constitute a cultural product.

The financing consists in private financial means and it is an independent funding initiative but it consists also in an action called a ‘financial social recycling’. The idea is to reuse the financial resources to maximise their use in social aspects and to meet more social needs.

MakeCoffeeNotWAR intends to gain the fund of 7.000$ for the production of the documentary film and the photographic document, thanks to one of popular platforms of social financing (Kickstarter). Then, after having gathered the required sum, getting the necessary filmic equipment, which after having achieved the established goals, will be sold on an Internet auction platform (ebay) and the money will supply the account of I Love Ukraine foundation. Funds collected in this way will be used for cultural and social productions and reused for the purposes of humanitarian aid for the children from the war zones.

The origins of the name ‘MakeCoffeeNotWAR’ refers to the social movement Make Tea Not War, but also alludes to the ritual of drinking coffee. This ritual conduces to a short meditation, to a pause and to thinking processes – to distance yourself from living in a consumerist society.

ad.3: ‘New Media’ and ‘Web 2.0’ net as financing sources

The Internet community constitutes a perfect ‘carrier body’ for independent informative materials about the social situation in Ukraine. Thanks to social media there is a possibility to reach not only international society, but it is also a great way to collect funds for cultural and social areas.

ad. 4. Why Ukraine?

We are aware that armed conflicts degrade socially vast areas of the World. However, we focus on the situation in Ukraine, because it is geographically our closest conflict, which in humanitarian understanding concerns the international community, and in the case of the of Central and Eastern Europe inhabitants also territorial safety.
